Booklets for women

Do you want to learn something about subjects such as gynaecological examinations, pregnancy, partner relationships and sex, puberty, and similar themes?

Within the framework of the project “I see! About Soul and Body for Women with Intellectual Disabilities,” we decided to compile five brochures in an easily understandable format. We strived to write the text as simply as possible and we then consulted on the resulting transcript with people, primarily women, who have mental disabilities. We subsequently adjusted the text in accordance with their recommendations. Two brochures – “Sexual Violence” and “A Woman’s Life” – were written directly with women who have mental disabilities.

The lecturer Ivetta Vrublová, who works at the University of Ostrava’s Faculty of Medicine consulted with us on all the brochures. Furthermore, we consulted with Petr Eisner on the brochures “Sexual Violence” and “Love, Sex, and I.” The Persefona organisation, which specialises in issues concerning domestic and sexual abuse, also provided us with notes on the “Sexual Violence” brochure.

The illustrations for the brochures were prepared for us by our long-term collaborator Helena Neubertová, who has already participated in several of our projects and who prepares our annual report for us every year.

The brochures are intended for people with mental disabilities, their parents, people working in direct care, and everyone who works with issues concerning the sexuality of people with mental disabilities in the broader sense of the word.
